Michele Cooley Strickland, M.Ed., Ph.D.

I am a UCLA faculty member, researcher, psychologist, and proud Playa del Rey resident for the past decade. If elected, I would serve my community as a balanced, fair, and accessible representative on the Neighborhood Council. My husband (a long-term PDR homeowner and former PDR business owner) and I are committed to rearing our children in Playa del Rey. They attended Westchester preschools and are WNS students. I am a WNS Parent Board member and have been involved in AYSO-Westchester, Westchester Lacrosse, Westchester Girl Scouts, and am a Westside Shepherd of the Hills Sunday School teacher. Increasing resources that build family-oriented opportunities is critical to the Westchester/Playa neighborhoods: a charming, safe, family-based community that is uniquely juxtaposed with schools, businesses, colleges, industries, and LAX. I am committed – should you elect me on May 18^th as your Residential 1 Director – to preserve and promote the quality of life in our community that enhances property values, attracts and retains businesses and industries, improves schools, and secures community safety, health and well-being.

PURPOSE OF NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCILS:
To promote more citizen participation in government and make government more responsive to local needs, a citywide system of Neighborhood Councils (NC), and a Department of Neighborhood Empowerment, was created.  Neighborhood Councils shall include representatives of the many diverse interests in communities and shall have an advisory role on issues of concern to the neighborhood.—Los Angeles City Charter, Article IX
